Whether or not vaccines are the direct cause of autism (or cancer, or arthritis, or autoimmune disease), or play a combination role with genetics and timing of each vaccine, researching this topic to help a loved one is daunting to say the least. I will continue to add links for places I would start doing research and for beginning treatment. My own opinion is that autism is NOT a psychological disorder the way we usually think of psychological disorders. With autism, I believe the brain is a casualty in physiological systems gone wrong--it has been shown that a mitochondrial disorder, as common as 1 in 50 children, puts children at severe risk for autism if vaccines are administered (see link at the bottom of this page). The digestive tract is also a casualty. When there is a breakdown in the body's ability to breakdown/screen what is absorbed and what is not, chaos often follows. Considering that the gut has a volume of neurotransmitters second only to the brain, one is no longer surprised to learn of the importance of the gut in the overall autism picture. While aberrant absorption seems to be a factor, aberrant excretion also seems to be a factor--difficulties in detoxifying the body. While external toxins are problematic to everyone, during the process of normal physiology, we generate toxins internally--as an analogy, we could give the example of a car producing exhaust when it operates. What if the exhaust were channeled to the passenger compartment of the car, instead of out through the exhaust pipe? I think you get the idea.....
